Microsoft Outlook ExpressOutlook Express lagrer meldingene i *.dbx-filer.
Microsoft OutlookOutlook lagrer e-post i filen outlook.pst som i utgangspunktet ligger i følgende mappe:
Documents and Settings\\Programdata\Microsoft\Outlook
Documents and Settings\Brukernavn\Programdata\Thunderbird
Documents and Settings\Brukernavn\Programdata\Thunderbird
Mer informasjon finner du i Hardware.nos programtips.
Cobian Backup Outlook 2003-tillegg MozBackup

About RSS

A Gentle Warning ToAll Webmasters About RSSBy Titus Hoskins (c) 2006 RSS is fast becoming an obsession for me. I didn't plan for it to be that way. It just happened.
I have been interested in RSS for a couple of years now but it was only around this time last year that I started taking a serious look at this little syndication standard that's changing how we communicate on the web. Really Simple Syndication. Simple phrase but it changes everything.
Editorial Note: Drop by the SiteProNews Blog to read regular posts by two of the Web's top SEO writers, Jim Hedger and Kim Roach.

I figured what better way to get to know a subject than to write about it. Going through the vast resources of the Internet, blogs, forums, ebooks to collect what information I needed for my ebook and articles. The Internet is one huge storehouse of knowledge that more than supplied me with enough material to write a hundred articles.
Coming from a fine art background, I also knew the only way to really learn about a subject was 'hands on' experience. So at the same time I started to really implement RSS tactics on my own sites to get 'first-hand' evidence to prove or back up my articles and writing. I concentrated on website RSS techniques that worked with the major Search Engines; starting my own blogs and RSS feeds to enhance my sites and manipulating the search engines, feeding the spiders with very legit content to build targetëd traffíc to any keyword or market sector I wanted to promote.
Experiences that have opened my eyes wider than they have been since kindergarten and RSS is still surprising me at every turn. Only after I had started researching and writing about RSS did it dawn on me that I had no idea just how Big a Player RSS is becoming and will become in the very near future. The impact will be felt in all areas of the web.
Some of the major ones:
Google Blog Search - Which now opens up the whole area of blog content and feeds to the one search engine that counts. Google also finally embraced RSS despite its major investment in the other syndication standard - Atom. Google bought Blogger.com a while back which promotes the Atom feed.

Microsoft's Windows - The next version of Windows - Vista - will have RSS embedded into its operating system. This will open up RSS to the mass market. This will put RSS center stage for computer and Internet users.
Google Sitemaps - This XML powered system lets you update and quickly index your site's pages in Google.
Podcasting - The enormous popularity of sending audio files or podcasting is opening up a whole new audience for RSS.
Media RSS - This will permit the syndication of all types of media, including video and TV programs through RSS, further opening up RSS to becoming a broadcasting system for the Internet.
RSS Search - MSN, as well as other search engines, makes it possible to search RSS feeds for the information we need.
Mozilla Firefox Browser - This RSS powered browser with its 'Live Bookmarks' is proving very popular with surfers. It also proves you really don't have to know a thing about RSS to enjoy its benefits - it can be seamlessly integrated into the background or operating system with the end-users oblivious to even the existence of RSS.
Commercial RSS - Then there is the whole potential of RSS ads and advertising which would commercialize RSS and bring it into play by large corporations who are mainly interested in the bottom line.

Not to mention all those orange XML or RSS buttons popping up on website after website. RSS is taking on a life of its own, gaining in popularity and growing in strength. RSS is becoming a force that has to be reckoned with by every webmaster.
How about you? Is your site RSS ready? Are you taking advantage of RSS? Are you using RSS?

This is a gentle warning that you will start using RSS if you haven't already and here's why... if you want your site to remain truly competitive you must have RSS on it. Without RSS you will be losing visitors and traffíc to RSS empowered sites. You will be losing traffíc to sites that are targeting keywords with blogs and feeds. You will be losing traffíc to those sites using the XML powered Sitemaps. You will be losing traffíc to sites that are RSS User-Friendly and fully optimized for RSS.
You must have an RSS User-Friendly site if want your site to be competitive. Just ask yourself, when the next Windows browser comes online, how competitive will your site be without RSS? What role will RSS play in getting visitors and repeat visitors to your competitor's website?
Webmasters should be gearing up now for RSS, if they haven't already. You have to prepare your sites for RSS. You have to position your sites to take full advantage of the coming RSS revolution! Take advantage of Google's Sitemaps, Blog Search, RSSMedia, Next RSS powered Windows...
Get Ready. Prepare your site.
RSS is not only changing the rules, it is changing the whole ball game. RSS will transform the Internet. RSS will play a bígger and bígger role in the success or failure of your website.
Proceed without RSS at your own risk.

Using Blog PR to Promote Your Site

Using Blog PR to Promote Your Site
by Adam McFarland

The recent trend of using the press release to promote an online business has emerged with good reason – good press costs very little and can do more for a business than thousands of dollars of marketing. Most businesses use press distribution services like PR Web or PRFree to get the word out about their news. While distribution services certainly can be effective, they tend to miss out on arguably the most influential group of the press – bloggers. Bloggers mold and shape the opinions of their readers, who are normally the most important in their particular industry, many of whom are also bloggers. Not long after a post from an influential blogger, your news has been picked up by several other bloggers and within days you are all over the blogsphere. Before you know it your site is getting more attention than it would if a story ran in the local newspaper! So how do you get the influential bloggers in your industry to run a story about your business?

Why Would Anyone Do a Story About Your Business?

Are you a new company? Did you just launch a new product that they could review? Did your business win an award? Are you a group of college kids who started a company on savings from your summer jobs? You get the idea. There needs to be a reason that someone would want to read about you. Bloggers take pride in the content they feed their readers. You don't stand a chance of getting a blogger to write about you if you don't have a story that their readers will be interested in.

Research Bloggers in Your Industry

More is less when it comes to contacting bloggers. Buy a list of 1,000 bloggers and send out a generic email to all of them and you'll likely get no response. But send a small amount of personalized emails to the appropriate bloggers and you'll be shocked at how many positive responses you get. The first step is to make a list of the bloggers that would be interested in your story. You can generally get a feel for whether or not a blogger would be interested in your story by reading a couple of posts and checking out their bio. If they've done a few similar stories in the past or they are heavily involved in your industry, there is a good chance they'll want to hear your story. If not, leave them off your list and move on.The single best method that I have found to research blogs is the Technorati Blog Directory http://www.technorati.com/blogs/. You can peruse blogs in your industry in order of “authority” - how important Technorati thinks a blog is. This is extremely useful. For example, if you are in the travel industry, you can view a list of the most influential blogs in the world of travel.Another great way to find the right bloggers is to search through your competitors press sections on their websites to see what blogs have mentioned them. You can also find out who has mentioned your competitors by looking at the sites that have linked to them (type in “links:www.theirsite.com” on Yahoo!). There's a good chance that if they found your competitors story interesting, they'll find your story interesting as well.

Compose Your Email

The best way to contact bloggers is by email. The good news is that most bloggers make themselves easy to access and provide their email addresses on their blogs. The bad news is that most people don't know what to do with said email address once they get it. Use the following outline for your email and you'll see amazing results:Have a simple subject. You probably won't get many responses by treating your email like a press release and writing RELEASE in the subject line. Try something simple like “fan of your blog” or “comment about your blog.” You want to make sure they actually read your email and don't mentally mark it as SPAM when they see the subject.Start by complementing them. Since you've read their blog and learned about them from their bio, you know quite a bit about them. Use it to your advantage. Complement them on your favorite post, or how cool it is that they worked for XYZ company.Request them to post about you (be direct). In three sentences or less, tell them your story, why you think it would be of interest to them and their readers, and respectfully ask that they write a post about it. Be direct and to the point. They will respect that.Offer something in return. You have something that could help them. Maybe it's a link back to their blog from your personal blog, or maybe you could provide them with a free product or service that could help them or their business. One way or another, there's something you have to offer them in return for the time spent on a post about you. Close with something nice. Thank them for their time and wish them luck with their blog and/or business ventures.Notice that of the five components of the email, only one is about your story. The rest of the email is spent complimenting them and offering them something. Your chances of getting a positive response have just gone through the roof. Every blogger, no matter how large, likes to hear that people are enjoying their posts.

Respond Promptly and Respectfully

Not everyone is going to agree to run your story. Some will say that they don't do that type of thing or that they don't have time. Since you have been so nice as to compliment them, they will still usually reply either way. Regardless of the response, be sure to thank them for their time and wish them luck with their ventures. You never know when they will encounter someone who needs your product or service in the future (remember, they are in your industry) and if they have a positive image of you and your company they will undoubtedly give you a good recommendation.

Sit Back and Watch the Traffic Roll In

Over the course of the next few weeks you will see post after post appear about your business. Be sure to send another thank you email to the blogger after the post and also be sure to promptly provide whatever you offered them in return. At this point you have developed a mutually beneficial relationship with someone important in your industry that can become invaluable over time. That wasn't that hard was it? With a little research and a carefully crafted email, any business can effectively use blog PR to drive traffic to their site.

The Google Toolbar PageRank Demystified

Editors Note: Thank you to David Harry, of http://www.thebusinessdevelopers.com/ for this article. If you want to write an article for Site Reference, please contact us

Did you know that I don’t know what I am doing? It’s true. At least that’s how I feel sometimes when dealing with the SEO/SEM aspects of my job.
Many of my areas of operation are so beautifully stable and predictable, at least within reason. Working with programmers, we have a plan and a language to follow to achieve our goals.

Life in the accounting department is fairly stable in its approaches. Administrative, Customer relations, human resource development? They all have some form of measurable reality.

Search engine optimization? Not a chance. We’re not even let into the kitchen to see what’s in the fridge, never mind given the recipe to cook a feast for our clients.

It is a truly interesting and challenging aspect of Internet business development.
It is tantamount to working in the dark or having business plans plucked from the pages of the grocery store rag. Heck, maybe Aliens can tell me the truth about the algorithms.
Maybe even Macdonald’s ‘secret’ sauce while they’re at it.

Beware of the Great Beasts of Google! This brings me to the greatest mythological creature to roam the Google landscape since ‘the sandbox’; The Google Toolbar Page Rank (TBPR) system.

While the jury may still be out on the ‘sandbox’, I am here to slay the beast that is the TBPR, right here, right now. Forever let it rest in peace where it truly belongs, in Google purgatory.

I am not saying it is without its relative value, it’s mere existence quantifies that. It just doesn’t have a ‘measurable’ value that warrants earmarking any serious marketing dollars.

It is being overvalued in today’s SEO landscape. Don’t spend time and money trying to get a higher Page Rank. Just love it for what it is.I have not taken this journey lightly.

As a consequence of the ‘mystery’ surrounding the algorithms and the SEO community, I knew there would be those to lash out in a vain attempt to hold onto the LGB (little green bar) that is so much a part of their culture.
He is a destructive beast though. Eating up great swaths of forum boards, causing countless hours of ‘webmaster worry’ and even deluding the minds of its followers.
I am truly sorry, but it must end. This creature must die. We must move on to ‘greener’ pastures of content relevance, semantic indexing, organic link building and the other wonders that we have from the great Search Engine Gods.

What is this Page Rank Phenomenon?PageRank is, in essence, a rough system for estimating the value of a given link based on the links that point to the host page.

Since PageRank's inception in the late '90s, more subtle and sophisticated link analysis systems have taken the place of PageRank.
Thus, in the modern era of SEO, the PageRank measurement in Google's toolbar, directory, or through sites that query the service is of limited value.

Pages with PR8 can be found ranked 20-30 positions below pages with a PR3 or PR4. Additionally, the toolbar numbers are updated only every 3-6 months, making the values even less useful.
Rather than focusing on PageRank, it's important to think holistically about a link's worth.

Have an organic approach to things. What doesn’t seem to be commonly known is its ‘true’ and ‘measurable’ value in the marketing landscape.

I have spent far too many hours of mind numbing technical document and conventional wisdom research that has lead me to my eventual perspective on the whole Page Rank and it’s ‘relevance’ (a little LSA humor there) as far as it relates to being part of a meaningful online marketing campaign.

The Value of Google’s Page Rank SystemAt the core of my interest is ‘value’. What is the value of the LGB? Is there one? If so, then how can it be defined and measured for ROI. I don’t look at SEO as a hobby nor a passing interest. It’s about business.

It is a service that is part of a larger scheme of Internet business development.
As such I have to quantify my action and investments (of time and money) spent on my activities, which is none too easy in the SEO world. I have for too long watched and listened to a variety of hubbub about Page Rank (PR) and the Google toolbar phenomenon.
I looked into, found little that warranted further research investment and we moved onto other aspects of SEM/SEO. Well, doesn’t that little beast just keeps growing, as does the myth.

People’s beliefs and ideas surrounding the TBPR system it is truly incredible.
Listen to the Masters of YoreI have had it argued, in all seriousness, that the TBPR had a value as consumers would consult it for ‘authority’ prior to making a purchase.

Oh come on! As penned by SE Guru Mike Grehan,
“Can you imagine some surfer finding the digital camera of his dreams at a knock-down bargain price but refusing to buy it because the page it's on only has a PR of one? I don't think so.”Grehan did an interview in 2003 with Google engineer, Daniel Dulitz.

When asked about data accuracy in the toolbar meter. He told Mike that there are two elements: accuracy and precision.

The toolbar is accurate but not very precise. He added, "We have a lot more precision available to us than we represent in a 10-step scale."When asked about the obsession to ‘the little green bar’ by the SEO community and webmasters, Dulitz said,
“For search engine marketing, search engine optimization purposes, yeah, I'd say that there's too much emphasis placed on what that PR number actually is.... So, if people are trying to look at what we're doing and their idea is based on that single thing from 1 to 10, then... well, they're not going to be effective in figuring out what we're doing at all.

”In an interview with Lee Odden at the WebmasterWorld Pubcon in the spring of 2006;
“Given the attention that people have given to PageRank, which is in Google’s toolbar, you can see how I’d feel about using toolbar data.

I’m not going to say whether Google uses a particular signal in our ranking; I just wanted to communicate some of the potential problems in using things like toolbar data.

”Another chat between Matt and Lee produced “Google does not use toolbar data for rankings. He mentioned that it certainly didn't help that in the "Meet the Crawlers" session at SES NYC, the MSN rep suggested that MSN "might" be using user/toolbar info. That suggests the other search engines do as well.

Matt also said that user data would be too easy to spam to use for rankings.”

Toolbar Page Rank is Dead! Long Live Targeted Traffic! Is not the end-game of Internet marketing and SEO, getting more targeted traffic?
From which, we hope to elicit the best possible conversion rates? Honestly, in my SEM/SEO background and training, Toolbar PR has not more than a passing metric for general consumption for quite some time.

Those selling text link advertising would have you believe it is the all powerful measuring tool. Strange, I have seen PR0 Sites with better SERPs and traffic than PR6.

Isn’t my advertising about the distribution channel? Do I want my advertising on the site with a pretty green bar that read 6, or on the site that actually gets the traffic I am targeting?

For some reason, SEO folks have a skewed marketing perspective and like things the other way around.Just like so many websites disappearing into the Google sandbox, let this menace of Google PR terrorize SEO’s and Webmasters alike no longer.

Let us rejoice and move onto new and wonderful lands with promises of getting traffic. Wonderful, life giving, targeted traffic.
That’s truly what matters to the website. It’s the food that gives it life. I shall see you on the other side.

Please leave this place or Page Rank hell now, before it’s too late. What do you think? Is the Google Toolbar PageRank useful? Discuss it HereMake your own conclusions;Article Resources; Grehan ClickZ article; http://clickz.com/experts/search/results/article.php/3522286 Grehan interview ; http://www.e-marketing-news.co.uk/december_2003.html

Making Money with Affiliate Links, Google Adsense and PL Content
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
One of the most frequently asked questions of all time is, "How do I make money on the Internet"?If you have been trying to make money on the Internet for even a short while, you have undoubtedly heard quite a few names being thrown about. It seems as ifeveryone sees themselves as an expert and everyone who is anyone knows everyoneelse who is someone. It is like a marketing guru clique. And they make you thinkthat if you do not know somebody, you will always be a nobody. You have probably encountered product launches, audio and video streaming, teleseminars, and joint ventures, etc. The gurus that are selling these productsand services are making money hand over fist. In all fairness, these productsand services are genuine and valuable to the folks who buy them. But what most of them will not tell you is that there are thousands of people onthe Internet making thousands of dollars a month without spending a lot ofmoney. They do not fly to every seminar in the country just to make contacts. They rarely do joint ventures, because frankly, no one knows who they are. Theyliterally sit in front of their computers in their underwear, click a few links, and wait for the money to roll in.How do they do it? Affiliate links, Google Adsense, and content.Take Google Adsense, for instance. Search engines love good content, the more, the better. When you create multiple content pages on your website, the search enginespiders crawl the site, then follow each link to more content, which helps raiseyour rankings. How does this make you money? By placing Adsense ads on every page. As readersclick through your pages, many will also click the Adsense links. Every timethey do, you make a commission from Google. It can be anywhere from a few centsto several dollars. They do not have to buy anything. Just clicking the link makes you money. Themore people you drive to your site, the more people will click the links, andthe more money you will make. Now all you need is content. If you are a good writer, you can write your own.But most of us are not.One option would be to use articles written by others. Go to any of the populararticle directories and you will find thousands of articles. Most can used freeof charge as long as you include the resource box with each article. Since youare not promoting your own product, this is a very viable option. The major downside to using other peoples articles is that the reader will viewthem as the expert and likely click the link in the resource box instead of theAdsense links, and you lose money. However, the best option is Private Label Rights articles. Just a little editingcan turn these articles into your own creation. there are plenty of article editing software and I've tried a few.

The one I recommend is Secret Article Converter
If you don't want to spend hours editing each and every article so that the search engines view your article as duplicate content...a definite no-no...than try this new program. You not only get a time-saving article conversion program but joint venture coalitions, windfall advertising, and turnkey max profits. It is a real bargain!
The reader will view you as the expert, since you are not competing with another writer. You can also include your own resource box with a link to an affiliate program,so whether they click the Adsense links or your affiliate link, you haveincreased your chances of making money. And you have done it without a singleproduct of your own.Making money on the Internet is not as difficult as some would have you believe. As with any business, give the people what they want and they will keep comingback.Sincerely,-Dan FarrellEditor, Build An eBusiness On A ShoestringThis site keeps getting bigger and better. 25 Ways to Add Quality Content to your website, part 1

25 Ways to Add QualityContent to Your Web Site (Part 1). . .
Using ideas that cover at least 25 differentindustries! By Robin Nobles

We've known for a long time that quality matters to Google. In a post Senior Google Engineer Matt Cutts made to his blog, "quality" was mentioned several times as being important to Google. Quality matters when it comes to content, and it matters when it comes to links.
However, building content and links doesn't have to be painful. Web site owners tend to think of content in a very limited way.

So, let's open up our creative minds and think of all sorts of ways of adding quality content to a Web site.
A few things to remember:
You're only confined by the boundaries you set for yourself and your Web site. Allow yourself to think in a totally different way than you've thought before.
Your Web site content should be written for your buying customers . . . not for you. Your Web site content should not be written for the search engines. The search engines are not your target audience.
Think of the overall picture of your site, as if it were a living, breathing entity. After all, Web sites should continue to grow on a constant basis and nevër be stale or stagnant.
Let's Get into the Fun Stuff: Quality Content for YourTarget Audience

1. A calendar of events. This is ideal for sites like real estate sites to show upcoming open houses; book stores to promote upcoming book signings or writers' meetings; collectors' sites to show meetings across the country, etc. Be sure to allow visitors to send in their own event to be posted to the calendar.

2. Maps. Consider real estate sites, hunting or fishing sites, camping sites, hotels, or any outdoor recreational sites for maps. Be sure to add content at the bottom of the map that describes the map and outlines its purpose as it relates to your site.

3. Before/after experiences. This is perfect for products or services you're selling where customers can write in and discuss how this particular product or service helped them. These could turn out to be mini articles, or use them as testimonials.

4. Pictures from your customers. You could set up a special place where past customers could post their pictures and journal entries on your site. This is ideal for vacation sites, recreational sites, wedding sites, baby sites, photography studios, etc. How could you use this idea on a Halloween site? On a flower site?

5. Online coloring sheets. Use your imagination here. If you set up some coloring sheets about your vacation property, kids could color those sheets and post them online before their trip in their own special online area. After the trip, their parents could post pictures and a journal of their trip. This is their "Web site" about their trip, all hosted on your site as a perk for booking through your vacation site. What are they going to do with this information? They're going to tell their friends, Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Edna, etc. They're going to link to it. You can use this perk as part of your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) when differentiating yourself from your competition. You'll be building one-way links from your past customers, plus visibility for future customers. Win/win situation. You'll think of many ways of adding coloring sheets (or similar creative activities for kids) to your site, if your site is the type that would work for kids.

6. Blogs or forums certainly add fresh content to a site.

7. Articles or new pages of interest to your target audience. Write new content on a regular basis – once or twice a week should be your goal.

8. An expert Q&A on the main page of your site. Get an expert to answer questíons, and post one question/answer a week (or a day – whatever you can handle) on the main page of your site. Have past Q&A's in a searchable archive on your site.

9. Product reviews. If your industry has products or software to review, consider writing candid reviews of those products. Publish the reviews on your Web site as well as publish them in a few of the online publications. Readers are always interested in totally candid reviews, where the writer lists the positive as well as the negative aspects of a product. If you have a landscaping business, how could you use this idea? What products do you, as an expert, prefer to use, and why?

10. Short tips. If your product or service lends itself to short tips, write up a series and publish them on your Web site. Send them out in your newsletter. Get your readers to send in tips as they use the product. Offer a discount off additional products if they submit tips.

11. FAQ's. FAQ's are content – content that your target audience wants to know. As you get questíons from your readers, add additional Q&A's to your FAQ's to keep them current.

12. How-to guides. People love "how to" guides. If you sell online plumbing parts, why not have a "how to" guide on installing a new toilet? Make it easy on your customers, and they'll come back to you again and again. Create a series of "how to" guides. Be The Toilet Guy on the Net. May not sound too glamorous, but if you're highly visible on the Net and are converting traffïc to sales, you can afford to be glamorous OFF the Net!

10 Essential Blogging Tools

10 Essential Blogging Tools

So, you finally decided to take the blog leap. You've heard all about the marketing and search benefits so you stepped up to the plate and signed up for a TypePad, MovableType or WordPress blog software package and now you're a blogger.

Okay, now what? Add the ten essential blogging tools listed below and you will also be well on your way to creating and promoting a blog that is a powerful marketing tool. I'll explain the use of the tool and offer some suggestions, including the tools I use on my own blogs including the DuctTapeMarketing blog.

Feed Reader
The best way to learn about blogs and blogging is to read, or at least scan, lots of blogs. One of the wonders of blogs is that you can have every new post from every blog you want to read delivered to your desktop or to online location via RSS, so you can easily read and scan the posts of many blogs in a very short time. Newsgator is a good online choice for feed reading and also has a version that integrates with Outlook. I use a frëe online service known as Bloglines.

Subscriber Center
You need to make it easy for your blog visitors to subscribe to your blog's RSS feed – so they can read your blog in their favorite feed reader. The best way to do this is to go to FeedBurner and burn your own RSS feed there and use the tools they provide to set up automatic subscriber links so people who want to use Bloglines, Google Reader, MyYahoo or Pluck, for instance, can clíck on one button to subscribe. Tech types can figure this out without the buttons but why not make it easy for anyone to figure out.

Side note: Subscribe to each of these yourself and you will force some blog spiders to visit your site.

Email Subscription Option
A lot of people will nevër get the whole feed thing, but everyone gets email. Create an option for people to subscribe by giving you their email address – they will simply receive your blog posts like an email message. FeedBurner offers this service for frëe. FeedBlitz is another option or, if you already have an autoresponder email list service they may offer this service. AWeber offers this and helps me integrate these blog email subscribers into my other mailing lists.

Blog and RSS directories
There are hundreds of blog and RSS directories and getting listed in many can be a good thing. I use a piece of software called RSS Submit , but you can also visit Robin Goode's frequently updated list and submit your blog and feed by hand.

Hint: Subscribe to the RSS feed he offers and you will be notified when new directories are added.

Ping Service
Pinging is a term used for letting the various blog and RSS directories know when you have posted new content. Again, FeedBurner offers this as an automatic option called PingShot and you should activate it. PingGoat and Ping O Matic are other options but they require that you visit and update your record each time you post new content. Bookmark Manager
As you surf around the web or hop from blog to blog you may find sites that you want to point out to your readers. Online bookmark managers allow you to bookmark and categorize web and blog pages as you collect them and are a great tool for managing all of the stuff you find on the web. I use del.icio.us but BlinkList does a fine job as well.

Blog Stats
I like to track a few key stats in real time because it shows what other blogs might be linking to you or posting about your blog. A lot of people just like to track this kind of thing for fun and frequently visit sites like Technorati. I like to track it for networking opportunities. I use a tool called MyBlogLog because it allows me to see where traffïc is coming from but also tracks what links on my blog visitors are clicking on. It's amazing how this data can help you write more effectively. (MyBlogLog also ranks your links so visitors can see which links on your site are the most popular.)

Desktop Posting
With most blog software you must go online and post using a set of tools provided by the blog software. Many bloggers like to use a desktop application to create and submit their posts as it gives them some extra tools and allows them to more easily integrate content and files on their computer.
I use w.blogger but also like Performancing, Qumana and ecto (apple folks) (w.blogger also doubles as a really simple HTML editor.)

Tell A Friend Script
My blog software (pMachine) has a feature that allows a reader to clíck a link and send the post to a friend. This tactic brings me lots of readers. You might try looking here for some simple scripts that do that same: http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/tellafriend.shtmlhttp://www.stadtaus.com/en/php_scripts/tell_a_friend_script/
Republish Your Feed Headlines
The ability to republish your blog posts on other web pages, sites you own or sites of strategic partners is a great way to expose folks to your blog content. One more time we turn to FeedBurner for a painless way to republish your blog post to any web page you choose with something they call BuzzBoost.

What, Why and How of Business Blogs

The What, Why andHow of Business BlogsBy Jason OConnor (c) 2006Oak Web Works, LLC

Blog is short for Web Log or Weblog and the Blogosphere is the online blog world, some parts of which are hyperlinked extensively to each other.
This is the Wikipedia definition: Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.

I recommend that you read lots of people's blogs to learn what blogs are.
Go to your favorite search engine and type in the word 'blog' and the subject you're interested in. For example, 'web design blog', or 'blog music', or 'sports blog'. You'll find lots of blogs that way.

Blogs have become a way in which regular, non-technical people can post information to the Web as easily as they can access it.

Why Are Blogs So Important?
Well, they're not that important, yet. But they could be soon, and most likely will be. In fact, some would argue that they are already vital in today's Web business world. I am not ready to agree to that yet, but it is becoming more obvious to me over time that blogs can no longer be ignored in business.

Online businesses can benefit from blogging by taking advantage of a vehicle for easily posting new, original, and business-related content on a regular basis.

Here Are Some More Business Benefits Of Blogging:
Blogs help to position you and/or your company as experts and leaders in your industry.
They're interactive in nature. At the end of each blog entry is usually a link that allows anyone to add their own comments to your blog entries. This allows your customers and potential customers to make comments about your products or services or ask you questíons to help them in their buying process.
Blogs are marketed easily and quickly by their RSS feeds.
Blogs allow you to stress your choice of products, services, relevant news stories, quotes, pictures and more with your audience, customers and potential customers.
People are generous with adding links to your blog if the content is good, especially within their own blogs. More links means more traffïc and better search engine rankings.

Here Are Some Ways In Which You Can Make Revenue From Your Blog:

1. Selling advertisements. Whether you use banners or text links, if your site draws a regular audience interested in your blog topics or theme, try to offer ad space to organizations that are looking to market to your audience. In fact, if your blogs becomes really popular then advertisers will call you.

2. Offering Google's AdSense. Google's website explains, "Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website's content pages and earn monëy." Learn more about AdSense.

3. Affíliate Programs. Affïliate programs allow Web sites that provide links to your site to receive payments or reciprocal advertising in exchange for promoting your Web site. In the case of blogging, this is reversed, where you post links within your blog, and collect monëy from the owners of those links when they result in a click-through and sale.

How To Blog For Business:
First you need to get blogging software. You can choose to create a blog that is housed on another site such as http://www.blogger.com (which is a blog service) or you can host it on your own Web server. I recommend the latter since the links that are developed by others pointing to your blog won't be counted in the search engines. This is because the links are attributed to domains, so a link to http://MyNewBlog.blogger.com gives a link credít to blogger.com and not your domain.

If your blog is a business blog, you really ought to host your own blog as opposed to using a blog service. You'll need the extra functionality and control.

If you plan on hostíng your own blog and if you plan to use a UNIX Web server platform, then you need to go with blogging software such as Movable Type, for example.
If you have a Microsoft Web server platform for your site, then you'll need software such as BetaParticle blog. Find a great list of various blog software at: http://www.lights.com/weblogs/tools.html

Next you'll need a database to hook your blog up to. The database is what stores the blog entries, among other things. If you don't know if you have a database on or connected to your website server, or if you don't know how to hook up your blog to your database, contact your host company or Web server administrator for help.

Once you have the blog set up on your domain (for example http://www.MyWebsite.com/blog) and you've hooked it up to a live database, you can start blogging. Generally, each entry is also a day. So you can write a new entry every day, or whenever you want, and that entry will show up on the blog at the top, moving older entries below.

You ought to think of a theme for your blog. In other words, your blog could be about your personal experiences in the industry you're in. It could be about your company's product reviews, or new services. It could be about your thoughts and opinions about issues related to your industry. It could be a place where you regularly find and list new resources to help others in your industry. The list is endless. But be sure to stick to a theme and be original. You want to offer something of value to your website visitors.

Sticking to a theme helps you position yourself for future advertisers and also makes for better reading for your visitors. Furthermore, you want to give a good impression with your blog with each and every entry if you want it to augment your online business. Finally, sticking to a theme helps with the search engines since it's believed that engines determine website themes and use this information for ranking.

Of course your blog could be about personal things too. Many blogs are just that, an online journal. But since we're interested in Web business here, I am discussing business blogs only.
What's great is that blogs get indexed easily and quickly by search engines. Each entry is another "page" that can be potentially listed in Google for example, which will drive more traffïc to your site.

Another neat thing about running a blog once it's set up is that you do not need to be technical at all to make regular entries. This is helpful if you want to delegate the writing to someone else, since technical skills won't be a prerequisite. This allows you to have the most qualified person regarding the blog's theme and, hopefully the best writer, actually making the entries.

Be creative. Add images to your blog entries to spice things up a bit. Although blogging can be lonely, keep at it.
Sometimes it seems like you're just writing new entries each day for yourself only. It may be a while before someone chooses to add a comment to one of your entries.
You may not hear from anyone for a long time. But that doesn't mean people aren't reading it. In fact, chëck your website statistics to see just how many people are visiting your new blog.
As you add more entries, get your blog listed on other sites and market your blog. It will build, and eventually you'll have a nice following of engaged readers.
Most importantly, be sure to pepper your entries with calls to action. For example, if your business blog is attached to your travel website and the blog's theme is traveling and finding great travel deals all over the world, make sure you add a link to an entry that points people to a travel special you're running on your website.
What would be even better is a blog entry about the fantastic vacation you took to Hawaii and included at the end was a link to cheap Hawaii vacation deals on your website.

Linking Tricks

Top Dirty Linking Tricks

by Lee Roberts

Part of achieving top search engine positions is through links from other Web pages. These links can come from people who like your site (natural links), reciprocal linking, directory submissions and a few other ways.

The goal of trading links is to get quality links for quality links. True quality links will carry benefits far beyond that of attaining a coveted position in the search engine results. The links will bring traffic from the Web page linking to your Web page. Therefore, you want to ensure you trade or barter links from quality partners.

Sometimes it's hard to determine who is a quality linking partner, even for the expert. So, how can you tell if your link is on a Web page where its value will not be very good?

The short list below highlights ways of diminishing or nullifying the value of a link to your site from another Web page.

Meta Tag Masking - this old trick simply used CGI codes to hide the Meta tags from browsers while allowing search engines to actually see the Meta tags.

Robots Meta Instructions - using noindex and nofollow attributes let's the novice link partner see the visible page with their link while telling the search engines to ignore the page and the links found on the page. Nofollow can be used while allowing the page to be indexed which gives the impression that the search engines will eventually count the link.

Rel=nofollow Attributes - this is not a real attribute based upon HTML standards, but rather it is an attribute approved by the search engines to help identify which links should not be followed. This attribute is often used with blogs to prevent comment and link spam. The link will appear on the Web page and in the search engine's cache, but never be counted.

Dynamic Listing - dynamic listing is a result of having links appear randomly across a series of pages. Each time the link is found on a new page, the search engines count consider the freshness of the link. It is extremely possible that the link won't be on the same page upon the next search engine visitation. So, the link from a partner displaying rotating, dynamic link listings rarely helps.

Floating List - this can be easily missed when checking link partners. Essentially, your link could be number one today, but as new link partners are added your link is moved down the list. This is harmful because the values of the links near the bottom of the list are considered to be of lesser value than the links at the top. With the floating list, it is possible to have your link moved to a new page whose PR value is significantly less or not existent and the new page may not be visited and indexed for months.

Old Cache - the caching date provided by Google indicates the last time the page was cached. Pages with lower PR values tend to be visited and cached less often than pages that have medium to high PR values. If the cache is more than six months old, it can be surmised that Google has little or no desire to revisit the page.

Denver Pages - while Denver, CO is a nice place to visit, Denver Pages are not a place you want to find your link in a trade. Denver Pages typically have a large amount of links grouped into categories on the same page. Some people call this the mile high list. These types of pages do not have any true value in the search engines and are not topically matched to your site.

Muddy Water Pages - these are dangerous and easy to spot. Your link will be piled in with non-topically matched links with no sense of order. It's like someone took all the links and thrown them in the air to see where they land. These are worse than the Denver Pages.

Cloaking - cloaking is the process of providing a page to people while providing a different page to search engines. You could be seeing your link on the Web page, but the search engines could possibly never see the link because they are provided with a different copy. Checking Google's cache is the only way to catch this ploy.

Dancing Robots - this can be easily performed with server-side scripting like PHP and is rarely easy to catch. In this situation people that attempt to view the robots.txt file receive a copy of the robots.txt file that does not include exclusion instructions for the search engines. However, when the search engines request the robots.txt file they receive the exclusion instructions. With this situation the links pages will never be linked and you'll never know why without expert assistance.

Meta Tags and Robots.txt Confusion - which instructions have the most weight? Don't know the answer? Shame. Search engines do. If they conflict the page Meta tags are typically considered the rule to follow.

Link the Head - while these links do not count in the search engines and do not show up on the Web page, they do get counted by scripts or programs designed to verify the links exist. These programs only look for the URL within the source codes for the Web page.

Empty Anchors - this is a nasty trick, but can be an honest mistake. The links exist and are counted by the search engines, but unfortunately are neither visible nor clickable on the Web page. So, there are no traffic values from the link.

The goal of trading links is to trade them for equal value. Understanding the ways people will attempt to prevent passing a quality value from their Web page to your Web page can help you avoid these useless links. If your link partner pulls under-handed tricks the links they trade you are useless.

While you may never be an expert in knowing all the latest tricks, traps and tests, you can now become an expert in knowing the thirteen mentioned above. Ensuring your link partners are not following or using these tactics can help improve the quality of links you gain from other Web pages. By having quality links pointing to your Web page will you gain additional traffic through organic search engine results and visitors driven directly from your linking partners.

To get back links into your blog or site

I often get asked my opinion on what the number one way to get back links to your blog or website is. I reply by telling them that the best way is to use different methods. I know this is a bit of a cop-out. People tell me, "But which one should I start with?" "What method should I use if I only have time for one?"I'm going to go into detail about what I would use if I could only use one method and needed the best results possible. I'll then give you tips on using this strategy to the greatest effect. So what's my number one way to generate a ton of back links?Article SubmissionSo why is it article submission with all the software out there? There are many reasons and here they are:

1) Some software maybe able to get more back links faster but if I chose one this would be it because it will last a long time. This is something that has worked for years and will continue to work. Your back links will also stay active a long time.

2) It's good for both short term and long term results. Your articles will be indexed quickly giving back links with 24-48 hours and they will have a viral effect building over time.

3) It's ethical. This method it great for everyone because some people don't want to use software that may upset other people and that's fine. This method will not get anyone mad with you.

4) You can outsource the hard part. The worst part about submitting articles is writing them. You can outsource article writing for anywhere as low as three bucks per article and defiantly no more than $5 per article making your life a lot easier. Now you know that this is the method you should be starting to use today, let's talk about the techniques to use in order to get the best results:
A) An article only needs to be 300 – 400 words. If you write an article of 600 words split it into two parts as this will then get you extra back links with the directories.
B) Make sure you use your keywords in your anchor text. This is very important to get targeted traffic from search engines.
C) Use at least two links in each article. Some directories only allow two links but most will allow three or more. If you're linking to just one blog or site use two links with different anchor text. You could also link to two different sites or blogs using one article.
D) You can change words and parts of an article to make it into many articles. I use this strategy myself and when outsourcing article writing. The article has the same information but said a little different. This will give you more articles to submit and can also get you lower prices on outsourcing because there research has already been done.
E) Create spare general blogs and place the articles on those blogs. I have quite a few spare blogs I use just to get quick back links.
Set blogs up today and interlink them all.
Get them indexed and then you can get quick back links to a new blog or site within 48 hours. Now you have this advice you should be able to start writing or outsourcing articles and then submitting them to the main directories already discussed and even more using software.

You could also you Article Assistance like me to get them on many websites.

Different Blog Systems

Best Blogging SoftwareBy Miles Evans

The blogging platform wars are getting really interesting and much of the discussion I find myself in lately revolves around what is happening with various CMS systems.
The market can essentially be defined into 3 major camps: remotely hosted, self hosted, and community based systems.
I have used pretty much every blogging platform available and each of them has its ups and downs. In this article I will cover the best options for each area taking into account price, usability, market share and of course SEO potential.
All of these products are either open source, completely frëe or have a functional frëe version.

Remotely Hosted Blogging Software(Note: I cannot really recommend any of these from an SEO stand point since optimizing a domain you do not own or control is obviously not a good marketing plan.)

Blogger
Blogger is completely frëe and currently owns the majority of the remotely hosted user base, but not by a landslide. Bought out by Google in 1999, Blogger essentially fired up the blogging trend we see today. It is by far the easiest overall solution to use and, if you are a novice user looking to throw up some recipes or poetry, this is for you. Blogger is completely frëe and includes some great features like comments, photo blogging, and a basic community feel with user profiles. Because it is so dumbed down there are some features you may not find with Blogger that are only available through 3rd party add-ons. As a side note Blogger weblogs do quite well in the search engines and this was recently exploited with it being the first choice for sp@m blogs or splogs. A splog is a weblog used for the sole purpose of gaining inbound links or generating thousands of keyword stuffed pages with Adsense and the like. The recent Google Jagger update cleared a large portion of this up. Frëe.

Typepad
Released in 2003, Typepad is a product of Sixapart, the makers of Movable Type. It is largely based on MT but there are some major enhancements and differences. Your blog can accomodate one or more photo albums with auto thumbnail generation. You can easily add music, books, and other media to Typelists, which grab a thumbnail from Amazon and other retailers for easy displaying in your sidebar. Typepad is also a great deal more technical than Blogger so a bit of HTML know-how is recommended. On that note, editing your blog to look the way you want is also quite easy and Typepad blogs are known for being very eye-pleasing, intuitive and easy to navigate. In Sixapart's business model, Typepad is aimed at regular home and small business users while Movable Type is targeted at largër businesses or for internal intranets. Price: Basic, $4.95 a month; Premium, $8.95 to $14.95 a month.

Xanga
These guys originated back in 1999 as a site for sharing book, music and movie reviews. Although it quickly morphed into a full blown blogging tool, Xanga still maintains the ability to run a powerful review site. Xanga pulls data from several retailers like Amazon.com including thumbnails, pricing and a cover. The software also is very usable by novices with a powerful WYSIWYG editor allowing for easy HTML editing, adding smilies, links, and other symbols. By using Blog rings it is also easy to interface with Xanga's other 3 million users to share interests, ideas, and of course traffïc. Xanga comes in a frëe and $25 flavor.

Self Hosted Blogging Software

WordPress
WordPress originally began as a mod of an older open source package known as B2. WP is MT's biggest competition and is often the bain of endless Wordpress vs Movabletype style threads around the internet. Although launched just over a year or so ago WP has really taken the blogosphere by storm. And with good reason - Wordpress is completely frëe under GNU licensing and is packed with many features you will not find anywhere else. It is also much easier to install and get blogging for novice users and has a very large and helpful community. WP runs on PHP/mySQL and is quite scalable judging from some of the very large and trafficked sites I see using it. It also sports utilities to import files from Movable Type, Textpattern, Greymatter, Blogger, and B2. Wordpress recently upped the ante when Yahoo recently included them on their hostíng packages, in addition to MT. I have to admit I am finding myself more and more digging WP and will likely convert Profitpapers to WP as I get time (it can be a biznitch). Wordpress is frëe.

Movable Type
Aside from maybe Greymatter (the original open source blogging tool), Movabletype dominated the blogging market share in 2002-2004. Released in late 2001, Perl based Movable Type by Sixapart has maintained a large portion of the blogging market share, due mainly to the fact that there is a frëe version (supporting up to 3 weblogs) and that it is incredibly powerful, intuitive and easy to customize.
Template driven Movable Type also sports one of the largest communities of developers and blogging enthusiasts around, meaning lots of support, idea sharing, and of course plugins. Movable Type can be configured to dynamically generate HTML, PHP or any other kind of pages you like, meaning it is incredibly scalable, fast, and loved by spiders.
It is perhaps the most well known blogging software for SEO purposes and it is what currently powers Profitpapers and several of my other projects. Moveabletype is either Frëe with 3 authors, 1 weblog, and no support or $69.95 with unlimited weblogs, authors and full support.

Textpattern
Textpattern is the brainchild of Dean Allen and was written to ease publishing of content for those not inclined to learn HTML. Like WP and MT, Textpattern runs on PHP and mySQL for easy administration, backups, and power.
What really sets textpattern apart from the others is the integration of Textile.
Textile is a tool for easily formatting content for those who do not know HTML. WP & MT have modules for textile as well but it is native to the Textpattern system.
Another bonus of the app is its superior handling of comment sp@m due to its smaller market share. On the blogs I maintain running WP and MT, I often find myself clearing out sp@m every day, whereas on some very busy textpattern sites I receive only manual comment sp@m (not bot driven). TP is open source.

Community Based Blogging Software

Slash
Waaaaay back in 1997, Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda launched a website known as Chips & Dips, supplied via his student account at Hope College in Michigan. In 1999 Andover.net acquired Slashdot. Shortly after, the underlying code was released as open source software called Slash. Like Movable Type and Greymatter, Slash runs on Perl, but it also has established hooks into MySQL and a very strong track record of scaling to enormous traffïc levels. To give you an idea, the term 'slashdotted' originated from acquiring a link on this nöw infamous and very popular tech news website - and consequently watching your servers melt. If you have nevër messed around with Slash, you really should as it is quite a powerful platform. Slash is open source.

Scoop
Another well known Perl based community blogging software is Scoop. Scoop is the software that powers Kuro5shin, DailyKos and many other busy community weblogs. Scoop took the Slashdot idea and expanded on it, making the discussion rather than the news the focus of the application. Where Slashdot entries tend to have a link with added commentary pointing readers off the site, Scoop points to stories written by members of the community keeping the reader within your own weblog. Scoop is also well known for handling large volumes of traffïc and a large very technical community. Scoop is frëe .

Drupal
Drupal is a well known open source community blogging platform with a very large community of users and developers. Not only is Drupal frëe but it is damn powerful. Instead of Perl, which is quite hard to decode at times, even if you are a fluent coder, Drupal uses a PHP/mySQL platform. Drupal is also a very community focused application with a built-in forum, download area, and hundreds of other home brewed mods and hacks. If you are looking for a lot of functionality, give Drupal a look - the project has become quite mature. It is also much easier to use and customize than either Scoop or Slash. Drupal is also another open source project.

Here is a handy blog software comparison chart courtesy of Online Journalism Review. Here is another from Weblog Industry Report which is much more thorough and nostalgic yet a tad dated.

Learn about keywords !

This is absolutely the best I have read about keywords . The definitive secret to SEO revealed :)
I do hope this can be of value to more than me........

http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/search-engines/2596-definitive-secret-search-engine-optimization-revealed.html?highlight=internet+marketing
I found this useful article in this foruM
http://forums.site-reference.com/topic/2252/Proven-Way-to-get-back-links-or-ONE-WAY-DIRECT-LINKS-to-your-WEBSITE/

..............................................................................................................................................................
Do you have a website and everyday you ask your self,
Why don’t I get any attention? What am I doing wrong? Well one thing that you might be doing wrong , or might not be working on it at all, is your Website’s Promotion Strategy.
Ok, let me ask you then, Do you have any WEBSITE PROMOTION strategy?
Or any ideas on how to get your website on the top RANK in big Search Engines such as Google, MSN, or Yahoo ?
Well one thing that I can guarantee to you is Back Links, also know as Quality One Way Links. What are they? They are know as links that refer back to your own domain name, there are many ways to get them such as newsgroups submissions and working with them, also creating dozens of blogs and working with them posting you link in comments and in the post’s sections. But one of the most effective and know to be the real proven that works is through Article Submission.
Article Submission is know to be a powerful method, so great that can lead your personal website, business website, your blog, and or any other type of internet domain you may have to a popularity you never though you could achieve,
Why? Do you ask, or How?It’s simple, creating a article involves lots of tricks one of them is using the “href=” reference command which makes “Spiders” used by big search engines, they crawl and find your website on the web by specific keywords.
For more detailed information do a quick search on Google.com, about those keywords, once you placed your articles on those Article Submission Websites, people would find and place the articles you submitted on their own personal website, that would lead them to have your link ok their page, counting as a back link.
That way it would increase the popularity of your website, since in your article you would always put your link on your articles.
You don’t have to be a professional writer to write an article, or have special writing knowledge skill, all you need is patience, some basic ideas and time, you could write articles about any topic, but in this case we would want to write articles that match the topic of our page right?
In this case it would be the domain we want to work on the Promotion Strategy.
Lets say your page is about your puppy, and you want everyone in the world to know how much you love puppies, what would you do in this case?
Simply write articles related to dogs and simple stuff about them on topics such as ,
“How to take care of a puppy”, “How to train a dog” and place your link on that article, normally your link would be placed on the BIO section of your article.
Then other puppy owners would find your article and place it on their personal website which would include your link on it.
Well I hope you enjoyed this simple article with some basic information for beginners to this topic.
Till Next time. One great website to submit your articles is http://www.articletyphoon.com Additional info:I am very dedicated towards article writing on a wide variety of fields, and dedicate my self to deliver only good quality url edited web content .

https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=15920&topic=147.

Vennlig hilsen Elisabeth Google AdSense-teamet

Artikkel om sandbox

That Darned Google Sandbox

By: Kelly McCausey

If you are a new website owner you might be realizing that no matter what you do Google will not give you results in their search engine results.
Instead of focusing on Google this article will give you some ideas of what you can do to provide your target market with what they want.
If you're a new website owner you probably know the pain of being left in the Google Sandbox. It doesn't seem to matter how good your website is and how successful you are in creating a buzz for your website in other ways, Google will not give you respect in their search engine results.
Last year new site owners were playing in the Sandbox for three months or so. Now many are reporting that they're not coming out of the box for nine or ten months!
This is testing the patience of many new internet marketers.
The way to handle the situation is to ignore it and keep doing what you know you should be doing. Despite what some may advise, you won't successfully manipulate Google.
Trying to do so could get you into worse trouble than the Sandbox.
Remember too that Google is not the only search engine in the world. Most see traffic from MSN, Yahoo and others within a month or so of launching a new website.
Instead of focusing on Google – focus on providing your target market with what they want. Concentrate on these basic areas: Create valuable content that your target market is looking for. Distribute articles to the article directories. Submit your website to appropriate directories. Develop friendly relationships with owners of similar websites.
Create an interesting blog and submit it to blog directories.
Develop a few valuable resources (reports, ebook or audio) to give away freely – and allow others to give them away too.
These activities will quietly grow your inbound links.
The idea is to be consistent and natural in everything you're doing.
No manipulation, no oddball search engine spamming techniques, just good web practices that add value to your website and to the internet as a whole. If you do these things, you will find that your website traffic is growing consistently despite the Sandbox and one day when you least expect it Google traffic will start flowing.
